UGC/social content: The American quilt was a way to celebrate an important event in a person, family or communities life, but perhaps most importantly it was often the only chance for women to get together and socialize. This quilt is from the Smithsonian collection and was created in 1857 by the "Ladies of Maltaville" for Mary Hill. The idea of quilt-making as a social forum for passing on stories exists in many other countries too and still goes on today.
